The 7 Types of Biomarkers You Should Know

    Think of these as red flags for future diseases. For example, having BRCA1/2 gene mutations increases the risk of breast cancer.

  2. Diagnostic Biomarkers

    These help detect diseases early. A classic example? Blood glucose levels used to diagnose diabetes.

  3. Prognositc Biomarkers

    Ever wondered how doctors predict whether a disease will be aggressive or mild? Biomarkers like HER2 in breast cancer help forecast a patient’s disease outcome.

  4. Predictive Biomarkers

    These help doctors choose the right treatmnet. If a lung cancer patient has EGFR mutations, they are likely to respond better to targeted therapy.

  5. Pharmacodynamic Biomarkers

    These show if a treatment is working. For example, measuring HbA1c levels in diabetics helps track how well their blood sugar is controlled over time.

  6. Monitoring Biomarkers

    Doctors use these to track disease progression or check if a condition is getting better or worse. CA-125 levels in ovarian cancer are a good example.
